Other medications given are anticoagulants- which prevents blood clots from happening, cholesterol medications- to help maintain healthy levels of good cholesterol and diuretics.

Those who are suffering from a more severe type of atherosclerosis may need to undergo surgeries. Angioplasty is one of the known procedures done to clear the pathway of blood which has been narrowed by plaques. It is done by inserting a catheter towards the affected vein and inserting a device, either a balloon or stent to artificially expand the vein. Bypass surgeries are also considered to be an option in treating the condition. This is done by extracting a vein from a specific site of the body and will be reconnected to bypass the affected vein.
