heart disease lifestyle

I am doing a research on heart disease statistics. ?
I need to achieve a good dependent variable and independent. I will compare the different communities in my work. I thought may be a dependent variable of race, income level, lifestyle, location. Suggestions? or change the subject?
I do not think you have misunderstood what it means independent / dependent here. Independent (x) does not change as a result of something else, but rather on their own, and dependent (y) is what changes as a result of the X or Y = f (x). So, like race, income level, location, sex, age, ethnicity and it is likely that the independent variables. And for the most are dependent on heart disease, may make assumptions about the risk of heart disease each independent variable on the list. Note that the party should be conducting experiments to confirm or challenge hypotheses or theories to recover data on exactly the same as they are called in studies, in journals such as JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) or visit the AHA (American Heart Association). As for lifestyle, which varies, and may actually be a dependent variable, unless you simplify the type and active lifestyle, less active, they are rarely active or sedentary, this not work here, too complex to analyze it. You can also make lifestyle based solely on the type of Mediterranean diet, Chinese, Indian, junk food, healthy eating, vegetarian, vegettarian, low carb, low cal, low fat, etc. I hope this helps.
