heart disease in dogs symptoms
My dog has heartworms, but can not be tried until next month! What should I do?
We just adopted a loss of 14 pounds, 3 years old Mutt (Cockapoo possible) just test positive for the parasite. The good news is that they cost about as much as I thought, the bad news is that she is too thin to be treated and we have to wait a month. It is very lethargic and sleeps most of the time. Is this a symptom? Could be in a later stage of heartworm disease? I can not bear the thought of hearts full of adult worms to this sweet girl. It kills me! How can I get that the weight gain so you can quickly do the test soon and I wonder if she is in pain or if I can make it more comfortable. ~ Worried mom new dog
This really is in the best interest of the dog to carry a healthy weight and strong, and then must make it through treatment with a vengeance. I have encouraged many dogs with heartworms and have done very well while ensuring they are strong and have a good first body weight. Heartworm is a serious disease, but it takes much time to kill a dog, so a month or more to get the dog strong enough to treat is not a big problem. Just get healthy and then try to stick with wonder. Parasite to make the dog sleepy because with a heart full of worms from the heart can not pump blood efficiently, the parasite the heart, but does not cause the dog pain, which only takes away a lot of energy. Just give the dog a comfortable place to rest and will do very well, while she is strong enough for treatment. Good Luck! Edit: Some people are saying they do not understand why the treatment can not be done now. Parasite heart treatment is very hard on the dog and do the treatment in a dog already weak / thin very well may kill the dog. Healthy Weight for dogs can usually handle OK, but not the skinny dogs. Heartworm is treated with arsenic, a poison and if the internal organs are already suffering from malnutrition no way that will be capable of taking the dose of arsenic as well. There is no way a skinny dog would do, but a young, otherwise healthy dog to a healthy weight has a very good opportunity. Winterrules: hearworms ivermectin does not kill adults. This can be used to treat infections very new (Class 1), but once the dog has parasites adult heart in the heart. The only treatment that will kill an infestation of adults is a herbal medicinal organic arsenic. My answer was correct and not all out of date. All these state web sites that arsenic is in fact remains the treatment used to kill adult heartworms. Ivermectin stuns adult worms but not killing them. http://www.ssrr.org/Articles/canine_heartworm_primer.htm http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_heartworm_treatment.html http://www.itchmo.com/heartworm-prevention-for-dogs-1439 Corundog – No problem, I do not mind being corrected if I did wrong – I just knew I was right about that!
