heart disease diagnostic tests
Is there an accurate screening test to determine the buildup of plaque or artery blockages / atherosclerosis?
If so, what is? I'm basically interested in whether or not I go to a doctor and get an accurate test to determine if you have any blockage in the arteries of my need to be concerned about cholesterol and plaque buildup, etc. I have a family history of heart disease, and I'm in the middle-40's. I had exams cardiac stress in the film, and became "normal" for a man my age, but – Is there a better diagnostic tool than that?
The next better test for you is a heart scan or calcium. A series of cross-sectional images taken by a special scanner called EBT. Most CT 64-slice scanners can do the job, but not as accurate as EBT scanner. This test will tell if you have any calcium in the coronary arteries and if so to what extent. At your age, any amount of calcium means that you are at risk. The possibility of calcium plus Over plaque buildup and a greater possibility of have one or more blocked coronary arteries. The test after that if there is a lot of calcium build is a CT scan angiography type (s) easily determins amount of obstruction and / or motherboard. There are many centers near you, if you live in a big city. Contact them and make sure it is an EBT or at least a 64 cuts. Anything less will give huge amounts of radiation and an inaccurate test.
