The patient is a woman of 41 years diagnosed with heart angiosarcoma. She has no medical history of interest except a slightly enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) since birth, regular monitoring and without the gambling.
The patient had experienced pain in the pericardial region was examined, but no definitive diagnosis. The patient in an outpatient hospital for further investigation and treatment.
In the meantime, the patient was hospitalized for suspected pericarditis, following the onset of fever.
The TAC has organized a new formation analysis confirmed that affect the right atrium. Then underwent a biopsy of the heart, who was diagnosed with cardiac angiosarcoma.
The patient then undergone surgery to remove the right endoatrial mass and reconstruction of the wall with autologous pericardium.
The histological slides were been sent to a cancer institute, which confirmed the diagnosis of epithelioid angiosarcoma of the type.
The mascot, a scan bone and MRI performed later provided mixed results regarding the bone and possibly liver metastases.

Expert report and opinion
Summary: 41 year old woman in good health, with pain in the left chest. Hospitalized with fever and the diagnosis of pericarditis. Chest, abdomen, pelvis CT showed an abnormality in the right atrium. Transthorasic ECHO showed a mass in the right atrium measuring 4.4×3.4 cm and the wall. He took a biopsy of the mass atrial catheterization and pathology revealed angiosarcoma. Then underwent resection of the mass reconstruction endoatrail right with autologous pericardium, and he did well post op. The pathology was confirmed as angiosarcoma, an institute of epithelial cancer. PET CT showed increased uptake in the residual right to the heart (which reflect May be or recent surgery residual sarcoma), with increased absorption of D4, and pelvis near the acetabulum believes that law is a violation bone and a specific area of increased activity in the posterior margin of the segment of the liver second. CT of the thorax and abdomen, pelvis revealed no abnormalities, apart from the mass in the Atium. I have not seen the report of a bone scan or MRI of the spine in the records, or images on the enclosed CD. The margins are not noted in the path report.
Angiosarcoma arising in the right atrium, grossly resected for morphological description that seems to be of high quality. Staging showed metastatic potential PET in D4 and the area acetabular right, and perhaps a small fire in the liver (with the CT c / no / p Mets be obvious), with uptake in the right heart (probably physiological Post-Op).
Treatment Options
Sarcoma of the heart, including cardiac angiosarcoma is a rare tumor. Gross resection May is possible, but there is a high probability of distant hematogenous spread. There is no standard treatment approach because of the small number of cases. Our approach has been treated with adjuvant chemotherapy in patients without obvious distant disease. We used adriamycin and Ifosphamide for 6 cycles, if the ejection fraction is appropriate. We used the radiation to the heart. If ejection fraction is poor, then the choice of drugs Ifosphamide changes and VP-16. May angiosarcomas have a good response to treatment with Taxol and Taxol is reasonable. We used for the treatment of Taxol weekly angiosarcoma metastatic are successful, but not subtype of sarcoma was cardiac angiosarcoma.
If the patient has a generalized disease, the prognosis is very serious and treatment is palliative, but these are the same drugs: Taxol, adriamycin and Ifosphamide; Ifosphamide and VP-16. Other options that may have some type of activity are Gemzar with Taxotere, and ET-743, which is still experimental in the United States but is available on a compassionate basis. If the bone scan and MRI of the spine and pelvis can help determine if the patient has the disease at a distance, but this may remain equivocal. Treatment for 3 cycles followed by restaging may be useful to determine the extent of disease.

Does anyone know the prognosis for cats heart murmur?
My cat is a shorthair orange 6 years in America. Recently increased from 12 pounds to 10 pounds. recent months. There are about a year, the vet noticed a hard to find a heart murmur. I took him Back to the vet and was told that the rumor is very strong and can be heard immediately. wormed him and took his blood. mentioned diseases heart and perhaps lukemia. I can not get my poor kitty not cry now. I do not know the results until Monday and it makes me mad. He also mentioned an ultrasound on his heart to measure thickeness. Does anyone know how much it cost? I'll pay whatever it takes but I just want be prepaired.
I have so much worry, I really feel for you! Some veterinarians always paint the worst! Maybe not as bad as you think to stay there until you know for sure on Monday. Sorry, I do not know the cost of an ultrasound as I am retired for some time. I'm sure there will be a treatment for your cat heart murmur, my friend has a Persian with a heart murmur that had for years and doing well, so do not despair. It seems that veterinarians today are obsessed with leukemia for all that all our cats are vaccinated against, 2 Veterinary us out of our minds to worry about one of our cats when I was younger, saying it could have. There was and is now 7 and very healthy! Stay strong for the good of their cats and we hope it is good news for you on Monday!
